Virtual Villagers: Origins 2 is a new Virtual Villagers game released for mobile and tablet devices, and through Facebook.

Development[]

The game was announced in June 2017 by Last Day of Work. The game is separate from Virtual Villagers: Origins which is a remake of A New Home. Unlike the first Origins, it is not be a remake of a past game, but a new game entirely. Last Day of Work provided the design again, but, like with Fish Tycoon 2, was co-built by a partner studio.

Official description[]

Return to the famed and mystical island of Isola and be drawn into the latest sequel in the beloved Virtual Villagers series! In the wake of a volcanic terror on the neighboring island of Asura, a family has made their way to Isola seeking a new home. As their boat lands on the beach, they are greeted by a strange man and they begin to explore this mysterious new world. The beautiful and curious island of Isola was once a paradise home to a thriving civilization but has gone to ruins and untamed jungle. The twists and turns will leave you discovering new, interactive, magical moments at every turn!

New Features[]

Many new features are available in this game, which makes it distinguishable from other Virtual Villagers games.

  • The most recognizable is crafting, where you combine two materials to form a new one in the crafting hut.
  • Another feature is Lavastones, which is used to add extra features to individual villagers.
  • Villagers can now be given last names, a feature absent in all other Virtual Villager games.

Crafting[]

Crafting is a new feature introduced in Virtual Villagers Origins: 2 that is necessary for the completion of various puzzles in the game. It is unlocked once the Crafting Hut is built. Two resources from around the island must be crafted together to result in a variety of combinations.

Game Modes[]

Survival Mode was a game mode introduced later in the game. There are two survival scenarios to begin with, going up to 6 different scenarios. The first two scenarios are Volatile Weather and Virtual Mars. The goal is to survive and thrive for as many days as you can. Learn more in Survival Mode.

Extras[]

The volcano causes occasional earthquakes, which result in cracks in the ground. These Cracks can be explored by a villager by Crafting rope. There is a good chance that the villager will find a useful item such as tech points, food, magic, oil, metal, limestone, worms, sulfur, or rare stones. The Lemur, which can be bought as a pet in the marketplace, will traverse the cracks without the need for crafting rope. The lemur is also 100% successful at collecting the items.

Poisonous frogs appear randomly throughout the village. Children can be used to catch these and remove them safely. Alternatively, an adult can remove a frog, but will usually become sick in doing so. The heron, which can be bought as a pet in the marketplace, will also remove the frogs safely.
